Do aubrieta come back every year?
You’ll appreciate your aubrieta when you discover how easy it is to care for, and how abundant its blooming is. Every 2 or 3 years, divide the clump to easily propagate and multiply your aubretia. For spectacular blooming every year, fertilize your garden soil at the end of winter.
What is the difference between Aubretia and aubrieta?
Aubrieta (often misspelled as Aubretia) is a genus of about 20 species of flowering plants in the cabbage family Brassicaceae. The genus is named after Claude Aubriet, a French flower painter. It originates from southern Europe east to central Asia but is now a common garden escape throughout Europe.
Where should I plant Aubretia?
Aubretia is fully hardy and flowers best in a sunny spot, but it will grow in semishade. Aubretia prefers well-drained soil and will tolerate dry growing conditions, which is why it is so well suited to being planted in walls and rockeries. It requires just a little maintenance and is trouble free.

Is aubrieta easy to grow?
Aubrieta grows well from seed. It is easy to establish and requires a minimum of water as the seedlings grow. Choose a sunny spot in the garden in early spring with well-draining soil or alternately start seeds indoors in flats 6 to 8 weeks before planting outdoors.
How do you plant in wall crevices?
Start by making sure there are no perennial weeds already in the gaps. Either remove them by hand or use a weedkiller if necessary. Then, simply mix your chosen seeds with a little compost, or take small seedlings, and push them into the crevice again with a little compost, and water lightly until established.
Will Aubretia grow in shade?
False rockcress plants prefer full sun and well-drained soil. These easy-care plants are also adapted to partial shade locations but some blooms may be sacrificed. Aubrieta is a member of the mustard family, a notoriously tough group of plants. It is deer resistant and tolerant of drought once established.
Does aubrieta self seed?
Propagating Aubrieta Propagate by seed, division or by taking 2in (5cm) basal cuttings in early summer. Aubrietia does self seed well but the seedlings of hybrid forms are not usually as attractive of floriferous as the parent plants.
