Is vibrato natural or learned?
Vibrato is something that happens very naturally when your vocal technique is solid. Particularly when your voice is creating sound with a lot of freedom. But it is also a skill that can be learned.
Can you have no vibrato?
No one’s born with vibrato. Like any other singing technique like belting or vocal fry, vibrato is something that comes the more you work at it. But vibrato comes out most when the voice is in balance. Singing with vocal balance means that the muscles in your voice are developed and can work evenly with each other.
How do you get rid of vibrato when singing?
As you sustain it, clamp down on the vocal cords with the “m” sound to stop or prevent vibrato from starting. Hold the straight tone and change to “uh’. Repeat this several times, each time preventing the vibrato. See if you can do it easier while maintaining the straight tone.
Is vibrato singing bad?
A great vibrato is a sign of good vocal technique, because that ‘spin’ indicates a well-functioning set of vocal folds that is free of unnecessary constriction.
