What is the great Utah ShakeOut?

At 10:15 a.m. on April 15, 2021, hundreds of thousands of Utahns will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” in The Great Utah ShakeOut, the state’s largest earthquake drill ever! All local governments and their agencies are encouraged to participate in the drill, or plan a more extensive exercise.

When did the great shake out start?

The ShakeOut began in Southern California in 2008 as a drill designed to educate the public about how to protect themselves during a large earthquake, and how to get prepared.

Duck down to the floor, take cover under a sturdy table or desk, and hold on until the shaking stops. Remember: Avoid danger spots near windows, hanging objects, mirrors, or tall furniture. If you take cover under a sturdy piece of furniture, hold on to it and be prepared to move with it.
